Coursework: Preliminary Exercise 2025 - Music Videos
1) Write a 100 word statement of intent explaining what you are going to make for your preliminary exercise.
Statement of intent: 100 words explaining what you plan to make.
I plan to make a 30 second music video about a student having to take blame due to false accusation since another student snuck in something illegal in the main students bag. The song that I'm using for this music video symbolises being surrounded by a wrong crowd of people and how it can make massive difference in your life despite interacting with them. This sends out a strong message about how to not interact with the wrong people and how living in an environment you are exposed too can impact your daily life and how it can lead you to a bad path.
2) Write a script for your preliminary exercise on your blog. This needs to include stage directions AND dialogue. To see how a TV drama script is presented, and to look at professional examples, check out the BBC Writers' Room and click on Script Library. These will not be music video scripts but the layout will be the same.
The script for this preliminary music video is that I would start the music video of dim lights and a car driving through the window representing the opening of the music video then later on the music video I will show the time that's on my phone showing that I have to wake up for school then in one of the clips the protagonist has to go down the stairs showing the travel going to school when the protagonist is going down. Currently this is the amount of information I have for music video as I may use some of these scenes on my main video.
In my preliminary exercise music video I will use myself and two friends from school. In this i would be the protagonist and my friend being the antagonist
4) Plan your locations: Where you will film your preliminary exercise? (You can film off-site if you wish to do this for homework - this is what we would strongly recommend). Important note: You CANNOT take any students out of any other lessons OR disturb any other lessons in the school. If you wish to film in-school then you will need to film with Mr Ray supervising or after school with a Media teacher present.
For my locations that I'm going to use in this music video, the introduction of the music video would be in a dark bedroom. Some of the shots will be shown from an inside car view showing the outside of the roads. Another location would be in a street.
5) Write your shot list: every shot you plan to film. This needs to be far MORE shots than you will actually use in the final edited version - plan extra angles, close-ups, long shots and more. You can find an example shot list here. This is for a narrative film but the layout will be the same.
The shot lists that I would use for my music video are long shot showing where the protagonist is going to, close up to show the key details of what is going on in during the video, medium shot to show the body language of the protagonist. By doing this I am narrating each
