Use of media terminology (language/representation/theory): 3

Comments for AQA:

  • The candidate demonstrates a clear statement of intent with aspects of media language demonstrated such as the use of settings, character types and traits which help communicate the narrative of the music video
  • There is a lot of subject specific media terminology referenced throughout the statement such as visceral, voyeuristic and vicarious audience pleasures

Next steps:

  • Be careful as your statement of intent still mentions the fact that is it a preliminary product rather than the actual coursework. Also remember you are writing this as if you have not yet filmed or produced any material so go back and amend this accordingly
  • In places, your statement of intent feels too descriptive instead consider how this would appeal to your intended target audience and what message your product will contain for them.
  • Consider other theories such as Blumler and Katz and Todorov in which you could also reference

The use of demographics reinforce stereotypes of gender how most males do illegal activities that go against the law and the psycho graphics show different lifestyles being representedThe preferred reading for my music video is about how environmental changes can impact someones life significantly. However the oppositional  reading for my music video is that the protagonist should have separated himself from the negative influences impacting his life. The use of juxtaposition shown in  my music video is presented through time as my first scene introduces a dark setting whilst at the end the setting is bright and dim.

The use of visceral pleasure shown in my music video is that there is a scene where one of the antagonists calls the police which gives thrill to the audience. The use of vicarious pleasure shown in my music video is through the interactions of the protagonist and the antagonist/ villain. The use of voyeuristic pleasures is shown through the protagonist and antagonist walking down a pathway where the other antagonist follows them whilst they are distracted. Propp's character theory is presented by the protagonist being in a vulnerable position whilst his friend is a side kick who tries to prevent the negative situation from happening whilst the villain is the antagonist who follows the protagonist.
