 1) What year was the advert produced?   This advert is produced in 1955. 2) How were women represented in most adverts in the 1950s?   1) What   key conv entions  of print adverts can you find and what are the  connotations  or deeper meanings of each convention?  For each convention, write about how it communicates meaning to the audience. See the Maltesers advert above for an example of how to do this. The colour scheme in the Skittles is quite vibrant making the marketing of Skittles  recognisable and drawing their audience's attention. The phrase 'Taste the rainbow' is recognisable since they have built their product and brand and let the target audience know. The use of the rainbow has connotations of happiness, so it makes the audience imagine that the sweets would convince them to buy them as it suits a quite positive vibe.
